Two Are Better than One

The three-strand cord is a picture of the power that takes place when two people agree for something in line with God's will for them. As two people become one in agreement with each other, there is a tremendous amount of power. You can have such fun in your marriage when you begin to agree with each other. Do you know that God did not put you together to be miserable? He didn't put you together to fight, pick on each other or try and change each other. The Bible says that a woman is to enjoy her husband. (See 1 Peter 3:2.) Think about that. I rarely hear a woman say, "You know what? I really enjoy my husband." And God wants us to enjoy each other. He wants us to have fun together. You need to laugh and have fun together. So how do two people with very different personalities—who don't think alike, who don't feel the same about a lot of different things, who don't even like the same kind of food—become one? We know that it doesn't just happen when you both say, "I do." Becoming one is a process that just takes time. Many times the longest part of the process of becoming one is in the mind. Couples are sometimes slow to agree in the way they think about things. How does this process of mental agreement take place? Most marital problems include strife from communication problems, sexual misunderstandings, money issues, different goals, and disagreements about parenting. All of these things get worked out between us within the soul’s realm of our union—our minds, wills and emotions. They don't have as much to do with the spirit or the body as they do with what we think about those areas. We can know spiritually what the right thing to do is, but that doesn't mean we will end up doing it. The Bible says we are supposed to be in agreement. My husband, Dave, and I have personalities that are about as opposite as we could get. Yet, God has brought us more and more together so that we are starting to think more alike and want more of the same things every day. We still have two different personalities, and now we can see that God brought our differences together on purpose. It was not an accident. God knew each of our strengths and weaknesses would complete the other when we became one. The idea of saying, "Why aren't you like me?" is no longer a question in our hearts. We realize that we need each other to be exactly who God created us to be. We no longer pick on each other's weaknesses. Instead, we partake of our strengths and enjoy one another. There are no two people who need to get in agreement more than a married couple. God has done so much for Dave and me since we have gotten out of strife and learned to humble ourselves to the point that we don't have to be right all the time. Many wars are started in our homes over unimportant issues that don’t matter, such as whether to turn left or right out of the neighborhood when both streets go to the same store. If you want to have power in your marriage and in your prayer life, then you have to get along. You can learn how to "disagree agreeably" without causing strife. The big question is: How do people who are not of one mind learn to agree? Agreement comes when the people involved stop being selfish. A lot of adults still deal with selfishness. All that selfishness amounts to is, "I want what I want when I want it, and I don't really care what you want because I want what I want." Selfishness is an immature inward focus. If each one of us will learn to voice our wants, but choose what best serves everybody in the family, then we will find peace. The key is to care about what the other person needs, be willing to humble ourselves, and do what we can to meet those needs.

Over lunch someone mentioned about Eunuch in the bible and Eunuchs being blessed in Is. And so I did my own brief research.

Choir ministry has been great thus far.
I was inspired and encouraged.
Not to say I am very proud of our youths. They are young, around 14 - 16. Yet they love the Lord. They are smart and they look great!
Some of the best looking people are indeed in our church!

This girl I was talking to not just look good. She knows how to dress. She has the brains - She is in NUS High School! 15 and studying A levels stuff and is able to take NUS university modules!!! In addition, she plays netball for the school. Moreover, she is serving God.

This other girl. She is also 15. She looks pretty too. Sweet looking, tall, loves the Lord. Choir in school and now, choir in CHC. She is enthusiatic about serving the Lord and believes strongly for her parents' salvation.

Oh, and brothers... as young as 14 is serving in choir! And I out of the group I met yesterday, 5 out of 8 are goodlookers! Boy, and our church brothers do know how to dress up. When they geared up for choir, they maybe in their teens, but hey, some even have the boyband look!! Not to mention, they love God. They speak of the presence of God, the anointing, etc etc.

Wow.. it is indeed encouraging to be in an environment like such.

Gosh, I am really proud of these teens. Makes me wanna "take care" of them. Haha...

I was just having a conversation with a friend the other day. I was asking him so have you proposed to your girlfriend? He said what is the point of marriage. He can get married but what is the point of getting married, be committed to it and then later stay together when your heart is no longer there. "I don't see the point," he claims

I got to make this point. That is, he seems like a okay guy lah. Not the kind that pubs or clubs or smokes. He is helpful, friendly and in general, nice. But I just don't understand how he had such a warped idea about marriage.

I had a lot of things running in my mind as he shared his point of view. But I just didn't want to say them.

From his point of view, I guess what he is trying to put across and how the society is impacting his point of view is this:
The society is opened now.
You can cohabit together without a legal marriage bond.
You can even indulged in prematrital sex. Many people are doing it. (I mean the media is promoting it and subconsiously our mindsets are influenced as such that sex is a normal thing for 2 dating people, one-night is normal, lust is love etc etc)
Single parents are also getting more and more common.
Marriage and then divorce, common.

Looking at it superficially, yeah, what is the point of marriage?
You can cohabit, do whatever you want to do with each other, even have kids without proper marriage.

Why do you want to go to the extent of spending many thousand dollars for a banquet, to be recognised. As long as we are in love and happy right?
WRONG!

The whole idea about marriage is commitment.
People may not realise it but commitment has become this BIG word that many people, including myself but am working on it, are trying to avoid these days.
The importance of being commited is very important to be successful in life.
Can you list me one thing that you can do successfully without being commited? Even shitting you need to commit. You need to commit yourself to giving yourself a few minutes and concentrate on your business in order for it to be successful. Haha. Gross but true.

For us, Christians, marriage is not just a ceremony.
Marriage is covenant.
Marriage when blessed in the eyes of God will bring you blessings upon blessings.
Marriage fulfills your purpose in life (unless you are specifically called to celibacy)

You basically CANNOT commit to a person without marriage.
Marriage brings security to your spouse and your children, even to yourself.

Sex within marriage is spiritually significant and a blessing from God.
If you think that 2 become 1 comes from a nice pop song by Spice Girl. You did be surprised that 2 become 1 within a marriage covenant is the word of God found in the book of Genesis.
Sex outside marriage brings havoc and chaos into your life.

GET REAL!
If you claim to love a girl and do cherish her, marry her and do not waste her youth.

Book of Job

I just want to relate to Job.
During my season of persecution 2 years ago, the Book of Job comforted me as a new and young believer.
But now, after 2 years, after falling more in love with the word of God, after becoming a little more mature... I am reading Book of Job again.
This time round, Book of Job is much harder to understand.
There are so many things to read between the lines, to understand what was Job thinking and going through, why did God allow Job, a righteous man, to suffer. Why did God rebuke Job's 3 friends??!?!

And then relate it to myself... why did God allow what happened to me during my season of persecution as a young and newly converted believer?
Nothing can happen without God's divine intervention.
When Satan wanted to persecute Job. He had to still ask God for permisision.
Similiarly, everything in my life - persecution or not, is done through God letting them happen.
Why does He do that? These are our tests. These are things finite human beings CANNOT comprehend.

God was so confident that Job would still praise Him, still worship Him despite all the attacks and misfortunes.
Was God also confident in me that I would not just reject the new faith I just accepted?
I still remember my leader said that he felt that for me, he encourages me to continue to go for services and cgs. But others, he might not do so...
And during those days, not going to services and cgs were not an option. I really wanted to go. I did cry if I could not due to certain reasons.

Come to think of it. It was indeed miraculous that I did not backslide, that I did not condem God, that I even rejected my dad's views on God when I was only a 2 months? believer!

The victory that came out of it? It was not dad allowing me to go services and cgs after many months, neither was it I have proven anything. But rather, the sweetness of the victory was and STILL IS.. SATAN IS DEFEATED and SHAMED!
Woah! So much joy! Haha...

God allowed things to happen for HIS reasons. FOR HIS THOUGHTS ARE HIGHER!
I really cant imagine how I got through it and I really have no idea I continued to seek God.
Those were the days I seek the Lord and the bible as though they are the only friend and companion I had.
No family members to support. Relatives would mock if they knew. My parents were just telling me to forsake Christ.
No friends. Most of my friends are unbeliever and it was really hard to open up to them and for them to understand.
Or rather, I was so determined that I was sticking on to the faith that I refused to hear anyone who tells me otherwise. (A little like Job here)
And the friends I had were just very new friends I met from church... I was not entirely comfortable with opening up with them. And the sole close friend I had, were in not-so-good terms with - as in we had our own issues to settle.. that was also another tough season I had to get through...

It was so much seeking God.
I really have to thank Him for speaking to me, for strength, for His presence, for His word...
I also want to thank Him for having that confidence in me that He knew I would overcome.

My history? All of it.. I am using and will use it for the glory of God.
One of these days, I will preach and teach to thousands! =)
On the pulpit, I will share my testimony to shame to devil, to bring great glory to God.
My life is the greatest testimony to praise and glorify God!

I want to thank God for my wonderful parents!
They are amazing!
On sunday, I had to wake up early about 6am to get ready for Luke and Prisc's wedding.
I set 3 alarm clocks to wake myself! So it was a very very important event!
And before my alarm clocks went off, my dad came into my room and said, "Ying ah, 6am already. Wake up." I was like wah.. dad you more kanchiong for me.
Then I woke up and I saw my mother, "Ma, what you doing so early in the morning?" "Make breakfast for you." I went "Wah, so teng wo ah?" Haha. And mummy smiled.

A DREAM IS NOT ENOUGH

In the last issue of "Leadership Wired," I talked about the threetypes of jobholders. This issue and the next are devoted tothose who know what they'd like to do, but don't do it.

Every once in a while I run into people who say, "Well, I justhave a dream." Having a dream and fulfilling a dream are twodifferent things. Let me tell you something else--if your dreamdoes not match your abilities, it'll be a nightmare. I see people all the time who have unrealistic dreams. Please understand that I'm not trying to dash your hopes or suggest that you listen to naysayers who try to dissuade you from doing whatseems impossible when you know deep down in your heart that you can do it. I'm merely giving you a reality check because if you don't have the aptitude or the skill level to do it, you're going to have some real frustrations and you're going to have to change your mindset.

For example, I love music and I'd like to be a great singer; but there's a problem--some would say that it's minor, but I think it's major--I can't sing. Isn't it awful when you can hear musicone way in your head, but when you open your mouth it doesn'tcome out right? Fortunately for other people, I know I can't sing, so I don't torture them with my caterwauling. I've been places where there was a person singing who didn't know they couldn't sing. I don't know about you, but I wanted to look atthe people around me and say, "You know, somebody ought to go upthere and tell them."

Here's the problem: if I can't sing, but my dream is to be agreat opera singer, I will either be very frustrated or I will torture audiences everywhere who don't have the heart to tell me to give it up. Can I tell you something? It isn't going to happen. Not because I lack desire or lack the dream. It isn't going to happen because I'm not any good in that area--I simply lack the ability.

Too many times, people work on their weaknesses. Don't work on your weaknesses. On a scale from one to a ten, if you're a two at something, don't spend a lot of time trying to improve in thatarea. If you work on it hard, you'll probably only become about a four. In other words, if I take music lessons, voice lessons,and bring all kinds of people around me to help me sing, aftertwo or three years, I will have spent a lot of money and worked very hard, but I'm still not going to be able to sing.
If you're a two and you go up to a four, you're a little bi tbelow average. I know many people trying to do average things wanting people to stand in line and buy it. Average will never get you anywhere. So quit working on your weaknesses because ifyou work on your weaknesses, at best you're going to be average.
You have to find your strengths; you have to find out what you'regood at. If you're a six at something, you can get up to a sevenor an eight. People pay for eights. So when you ask yourself whether or not you can do what you'd like to do, you need to behonest with yourself before you invest a lot of time and energy into it.
By the way, when I say don't work on your weaknesses, I'm talking about your skills and abilities. The personal illustration I gave was my singing. There are three weaknesses you need to work on at all times, but they have nothing to do with your skills.
The three weaknesses you have to work on are:
1. Attitude issues.
If you have a bad attitude, fix it because your attitude willdisqualify you. I know several people who have great potential,but their attitude is the disqualifier of their life.
2. Discipline issues.
Work on your discipline issues if you're weak. If you can't getsomewhere on time, if you lack initiative, if you're lazy, youwon't make it.
3. Relationship issues.
You'd better work on your relationship issues because if peopledon't like you, you're not going to be successful with them.Remember, people won't go along with you if they can't get alongwith you.
Let me give you five quick questions to ask for yourself todetermine your abilities:
1) Do I have experience in my desired area?
2) Do I have any success in my desired area?
3) Do I have any training in my desired area?
4) Do I know what is essential in my desired area?
5) Do I know someone who's successful in my desired area?

I love this quote: "Find something you like to do so much that you'd gladly do it for nothing. Then learn to do it so well the people are happy to pay you for it." That's the way to live.Don't worry about what you're going to get paid and what kind of benefits there are; do something you love to do and do it so well that after a while you'll be paid to do it. If it's somethingyou are capable of doing, and if you seek answers to the five questions I have given, you'll be on your way to doing just that.

And this morning as I was walking I just naturally said, "I KNOW WHO I AM IN CHRIST!"
And I just felt happy and confident and kinda feel I really do know who I am in Christ.

Knowing who I am in Christ is:
A sense of confidence.
That you know you are a child of God.
You are entitled to the inheritance and promises of God.
A sense of joy.
A sense of conviction.
A sense of love - from God.
That you are very important to God - most precious - that He will always be with you. ALWAYS!
That you can have an intimate relationship with Him.
That you are called to do GREAT and MIGHTY things for Him.
A sense of assurance.
A sense of faith...
many many good and positive things!
